A new study has revealed a weakness of the emerging corona virus, through which it can be killed with vaccines.
The study, conducted by the American Scripps Research Institute, showed that there is a certain aspect of the virus root that can be targeted with the vaccine, which antibodies attack and infect with the virus through it, after researchers map the interaction of human antibodies with the virus that causes the Covid-19 epidemic.
The human antibodies used in the study were taken from the body of a patient who recovered from SARS several years ago, but was found to also interact with the emerging corona virus.
"Knowing the saved sequence of the virus can help in the structural design of vaccines and treatments against the emerging corona virus, as well as protection against other coronaviruses, such as those that may arise in the future," said lead author Ian Wilson.
Wilson described the site through which antibodies can attack the virus, "Achilles heel," referring to the vulnerability of the coronavirus.
"We found that this area is hidden inside the virus, and it is only detected when the virus changes its structure, as it does during a natural infection," said study author Ming Yuan.
The Scripps Institution said it was seeking blood donations from people recovering from the emerging Corona virus, in order to check for possible antibodies.
A previous study of the American Medical Association periodical indicated that the blood of those recovering from the Corona virus could help treat difficult cases.
